BMW ActiveHybrid 5 Live in Chicago

The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 is considered as one of the scene-stealers at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. This is because the ActiveHybrid5 features a unique drivetrain that most car buyers don’t usually find in conventional car makes and models. This drivetrain was specially made for this vehicle and BMW is planning to use this in some of its future car models

According to a number of car experts, BMW has decided to resume the production of the ActiveHybrid 5 since this will serve as a proof that the company still hold its commitment to save the natural environment by producing greener vehicles. However, fuel-efficiency is not the only significant characteristic that the ActiveHybrid 5 should be proud of. Many buyers would surely love the ActiveHybrid 5’s attractive appearance, upscale interior and reliable running performance.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 5’s attractive exterior design was basically inspired by the appearance of other sedan models produced by BMW. The company’s engineers, designers, and other personnel involved in developing this sedan have carefully crafted the vehicle’s body structure. The lines and curves that are found on the vehicle’s sides, front, and rear were obviously well-defined and these features made the car look more intimidating. Aside from that, the two chrome tailpipes, the kidney grille, and the galvanized slats found on the ActiveHybrid 5 further enhanced the sedan’s overall layout.

Under the hood, the BMW ActiveHybrid is propelled by the TwinPower turbocharged in-line 6-cylinder engine and the synchronous electric motor connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. To save space, the electric motor used by the vehicle is integrated on the transmission’s gearbox. The combined performance of the gasoline engine and electric motor allows the ActiveHybrid 5 to generate up to 350 horsepower and accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds.

In order to obtain the best fuel economy ratings, the gasoline engine and the synchronous electric motor are taking turns in propelling the vehicle. The gasoline engine powers the car most of the time but the electric motor kicks in specific conditions. In addition to this, the ActiveHybrid 5 could also run in pure electric mode and reach the maximum speed of up to 37 miles per hour.

On top of these, the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 is also equipped with some of the latest technology that BMW has developed. This includes the Night Vision equipped with pedestrian recognition system, Lane Change and Lane Departure warning systems, and the hybrid start-up function.
